The power-clean is the most popular excercise among track and field athletes. This exercise adds a lot of extra specificity to the power-clean. Because no movement in athletics is symmetrical it is easy to see why this exercise is closer to a lot of the basic movements in the various events.  
You can even target specifics for running and jumping by varying the height and length of the step.
